“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you” Psalm 56:3-4
*
Throughout Scripture, God repeatedly teaches His people to live in dependence on Him rather than in their own strength, understanding, possessions, or circumstances.
*
Uncertainty exposes where we have placed our security, and uncertainty is our own limited understanding of the security of the Lord.
In Matthew 6:31-34 (ESV) Jesus tells his followers not to be anxious about what they will eat, drink, or wear. He reminds them that their heavenly Father knows what they need and tells them to seek first God’s kingdom.
“Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.”
Here, uncertainty about tomorrow and provision reveals whether our security rests in what we possess or in the Father who provides.
*
“For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”
Romans 8:24-25
*
“yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring.”
James 4:13-15
*
When life becomes uncertain, when our plans, possessions, provisions, understanding, or our future are shaken, scripture continually redirects our confidence from the created to the Creator. Rest easy in the knowledge everything on this earth is temporary, and our father is a good father, he always has a plan to restore and redeem us; even when that plan doesn’t look how we thought it might/should his plan is perfect.
Proverbs 3:5-6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge him,
and he will make straight your paths.”
Matthew 6:31-34
“Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself.”
Romans 8:24-25
“For who hopes for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.”
James 4:13-15
“yet you do not know what tomorrow will bring.”
